Side effectsRecognised side-effects of Meridia are: dry mouth, increased perspiration, drowsiness, headache, stomach upset or constipation may occur the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication, breathing difficulties, irritability, blurred vision, restlessness, difficulty sleeping (insomnia). If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Meridia. It may increase blood pressure in a small proportion of individuals, and is therefore contraindicated in patients with arterial hypertension, or others in whom a rise in blood pressure would be harmful (e.g. patients with angina). Pulmonary hypertension, a problem in some other anorectics, is not a recognised side-effect. If Meridia makes you dizzy or lightheaded, avoid driving or engaging in activities requiring alertness. Alcohol can increase unwanted side effects of dizziness. Do not drink alcohol while taking Meridia. Other side effects include central nervous system effects, gastrointestinal disturbances, and changes in libido. More common side effects may include: Abdominal pain, acid indigestion, anxiety, back pain, cough increase, depression, flu symptoms, increased appetite, joint pain, loss of appetite, loss of strength, nasal inflammation, nausea, painful menstruation, rash, sinus inflammation, sore throat Less common side effects may include: Acne, abnormal thinking, agitation, allergic reaction, arthritis, bronchitis, changes in taste, chest pain, dental problems, diarrhea, ear pain, ear problems, emotional changes, fever, gas, heavy uterine bleeding, herpes simplex virus, itching, laryngitis, leg cramps, menstrual problems, migraine headache, muscle ache, neck pain, rectal problems, thirst, throbbing heartbeat, tingling skin sensation, urinary tract infection, Rare side effects may include: Bleeding problems, kidney problems, seizures
