MeridiaMeridia® (Reductil) is a centrally-acting stimulant chemically related to amphetamine, methamphetamine, and phentermine (one of the drugs in the Fen-Phen combination). Meridia is the brand name prescription drug of the generic sibutramine. Meridia is a neurotransmitter reuptake inhibitor that helps control appetite by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine (these chemicals are believed to affect appetite); as such it is an anorectic (i.e. it decreases appetite) although it also has antidepressant trait. Serotonine is a neurotransmitter in the brain associated with calm feelings, and nonepinephrine is a stimulant. Meridia also contains as inactive ingredients such as lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, colloidal silicon dioxide, and magnesium stearate, in a hard-gelatin capsule. Meridia (Sibutramine) acts by increasing serotonin and noradrenaline levels in the brain. The serotonergic action, in particular, is thought to influence appetite. Phentermine stimulates the release of norepinephrine and dopamine from nerve terminals. Phentermine was approved by the FDA more than 30 years ago, when the criteria needed for approval were less rigorous than they are today. Therefore, fewer studies have reckoned up the effectiveness and safety of phentermine therapy. Meridia used along with a reduced-calorie diet to help people lose weight and keep it off, works by acting on the appetite control centers in the brain to suppress appetite and obviate overeating. It is especially recommended for those who in addition to being overweight have other health problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol. Generic Meridia will often be processed within hours of your order being received, depending on the time of day that you placed your order. This medication usually prescribed for short-term use of 8-12 weeks. Unlike many other appetite suppressant drugs, Meridia is not a releasing agent. It does not get inside the cells to boost the release of neurotransmitters, such as serotonin. Meridia is unlike any other weight loss diet pill. Meridia changes the way that you think about food, by changing your brain chemistry. Anti-depressants like Zoloft, Celexa, and Prozac affect serotonin levels in your brain to change the way you think about life. Naturally, it's extremely important when losing weight to lower how many calories you eat. Reduce your usual diet by 500-1000 calories a day, to help achieve a weight loss of one to two pounds a week. In general, it's best to stick to a diet that consists of 1200-1600 calories per day for most men, or 1000-1200 for most women.
